The Features of ADEM II ECMs

The primary Engine Control Module (ECM) made for Caterpillar diesel engines, the Advanced Diesel Engine Management II (ADEM II) controller is designed to regulate and optimize the performance of engines that are equipped with Electronic Unit Injector (EUI) – particularly 3500B ADEM engine systems that are comprised of an ADEM ECM, actuators, sensors, and control software.

The primary advantage of ADEM II ECM-equipped EUI Caterpillar diesel engines is that, compared to Mechanical Unit Injector (MUI) engines, you get better control over particulate emissions (both transient and steady state), and optimal engine performance.

Over the course of this article, we’ll discuss the features that make ADEM II controllers such highly demanded ECMs in the industrial and construction industry.

Durability and Reliability

Firstly, ADEM II is an extremely durable controller that is designed to survive and perform in the harshest conditions. It has a die-cast aluminum, environmentally sealed housing that protects electrical components from dirt contamination and moisture. It’s also guaranteed to perform and maintain accuracy in temperatures ranging from -40 to 80 degrees Celsius.

Furthermore, the ADEM II ECM’s internal circuitry is designed to be immune to electrical noise of up to 100 volts/meter. It can also withstand shorts to –battery and +battery. Moreover, all ADEM II controllers undergo rigorous vibration testing to ensure product durability and reliability.

Simple Servicing

All ADEM II systems are compatible with the Caterpillar ET service tool software. The software does the following things:

· Performs diagnostic tests and calibrations

· Retrieves and displays the recorded diagnostic codes documenting irregularities in the system’s operation.

· Retrieves recorded and active diagnostic codes

· Supports the flash programming of new firmware into the system

· Displays measured parameters

Advanced Features

The ADEM II ECM is equipped with a multitude of advanced features, including:

· Isochronous control

· Adjustable monitoring of critical engine parameters

· Idle speed setting

· Speed acceleration ramp rate programmability

· Adjustable cool down duration

· Fuel injection limiting and timing adjustability

· Data link interfaces

Optional Features

· Air shutoff adjustability

· Started motor control

· Remote control and monitoring capability

· Incorporated pre-lube control system
